I am an enthusiast photographer with a need to create and experiment with media.  My favored hunting grounds are at public events, urban streets, and gardens.

In the studio, I play with light and bokeh in pursuit of creating unique images with texture and saturated colors.  Away from the studio, I look for moments and composition capturing people showing true expressions.

Deep South to Southwest

John C. Murray

I am a New Orleanian raised around diverse cultures with a strong appreciation for curiosity and art.

Now in El Paso for nearly 20 years; residing in the scenic Rim – University neighborhood in a mostly original 1931 Spanish Revival bungalow with chaotic gardens and a detached creative studio.

The Gear

I primarily shoot with full frame Nikon Z for studio and Olympus for outdoors using modern native, vintage manual, and specialty art lenses.

El Paso is a naturally bright place.  I prefer sunlight and tree shade for portraits, ambient lighting indoors, and I experiment with color LED floods and spotlights in studio.

When time allows, I like to play with vintage digital cameras to explore what older tech can produce, with a nostalgic bias towards soft focus and the dark and saturated images.
